Grade 8 took part in a course given by the SKVR, the theme was "Your Future" and after writing a short story on what each pupils' hopes and dreams are they then had to translate that into a photo. The background and the figures in the photos are taken separately and then layered by using Photoshop. Well done Grade 8 hope all your dreams come true!

End of Term Activities

What a lovely way to end the term with first aid training, sports and then our BBQ. We hope everybody will have a lovely summer vacation and look forward to seeing you back at school at the end of August.
Efteling

Corpus

Grade 9 visited the Corpus Museum on Friday, June 24th where they traveled through the human body, starting with the leg all the way up into the Brain.
Grade 9 Belgium Trip 2011

Grade 9 went to Belgium this year where they visited Antwerp, Brussels, many science and cultural museums, caves and not to mention the Ardennes Challenge. Fun was had by all.
Luxembourg School Trip 2011

The grade 6 and 7 students enjoyed an active and interesting school trip to Luxembourg. We stayed at the youth hostel in Echternach and completed an adventure course, a demanding mountain bike cycle, kayaking and several cultural and historical outings. We also spent one afternoon "klettering", trying out the climbing wall at the youth hostel.

International Playtime

The International Playtime Touring Theatre, based in the U.K., put on a production of “Chaucer” for the Foundation Course Students in the Aula.
Foundation Course Trade

The Foundation students spent an interesting inter-curricular week looking at Trade. In the classrooms, amongst others they played Monopoly, investigated Fair Trade, World Trade, uses of trade in science, calculated cost, profit and loss and looked at some principles of advertising and online shopping. On a field trip to the harbour, the market and the Wereldmuseum we looked at evidence of trade in our city. Finally, our students participated in trade themselves, and practised their entrepreneurial skills in a lively sale in the Aula. A lot of fun was had, and some students even made a handsome profit!
RED 2011 - RISS Environment Day

RED 2011 ... This year's theme was Water. We spent time, in teams discussing water quality and testing water from different sources. Guest speakers from Rotterdam University came to explain what water management is in the Netherlands and in the World. Green team students, who organised the event, received the ECIS award, for their commitment to raising environmental awareness in school.
Grade 11 Geo and ESS Field trip April 2011

Grade 11 Geography and ESS students went n a field trip in Utrecht area in April 2011. They got an opportunity to study water quality in ditches which are part of a network of water collection of the polder. The aim of our field trip was to practise methods to assess water quality and reflect on the possible impact of agricultural practises. We concluded our stay by a visit to an organic farm.
Rotterdam 5km Charity Run

This year 13 students from the RISS took part in the Rotterdam 5km run to raise money for the school charities. All the students did very well with everyone completing the run comfortably. Of course all the students worked very hard to make sure they were fit enough to participate and raised a fantastic €371 for our school charities. We will be training for the 10km next year. Saying Good Luck to Chandra

Today we all wished Chandra good luck as she leaves the RISS - we will all miss her, and of course her food! She told the school that she will miss all the students. We hope you have a successful future Chandra!
Intercurricular Project - Trade

Today we were introduced to this year's Intercurricular Project - Trade! We are looking forward to a week learning about Trade. It will end with a Table Top Sale! Look out for more photos during the week.
DISS Sports Competition

On Friday the 1st of April the RISS took part in the second Dutch International Secondary Sports competition held in Eindhoven. Two other schools, Eindhoven and Maastricht, competed in the event which again was very well organised and enjoyed by all who took part.

The Future of the Rainforest

In Geography this week Grade 7 decided the future of the Amazon Rainforest. They each took on the role of a interest group, researched their role and played out their role as a class debate. The discussion was superb and enjoyed by all involved!

Festival of Light 2010

What a fantastic time we had at the Festiavl of Light at the end of December ... this rounded off a busy and creative term for us all. We are now looking forward to an exciting 2011 in the Year of the Rabbit. (Thanks to Ulya for the photos).

Grade 7's enjoyed a very spirited celebration of the traditional Dutch Sinterklaas. We drew names, made "surprises", wrote poems and had a general wonderful time. Most of the students were very creative. It was also Aleksey's last day!
Grade 11MPA - Team building!

WOW! Fun and stunts at Race Planet with Grade 11! Congratulations to the winners who got speed, passing and bumping skills: Ilyass, Andrei and Mr Craven. Best wishes to Alice and Avanti who got injured, girls you tried your best! All students made their tutor very proud indeed! Hoping to have another team building soon.
RISS Robots are on the Move

The Mad Professor takes control as the RISS Robots are on patrol! Look out for them around the school.
New Computing Equipment

We are all excited at the RISS by our new computer suite and new interactive whiteboards in many of the classrooms. These desks are great as the monitors, mice and keyboards hide themselves away so that the room can be used as a normal teaching room too. Each year we expand our ICT capabilities!
IGCSE Presentation of Awards Evening 2010

We all had a very enjoyable evening at the IGCSE Awards Ceremony as we celebrated with students their outstanding success in their IGCSE. Many congratulations to our 2010 Graduates and much success in the future!
RISS Gives Birth

The RISS, thanks to Balsa, has now a new Club. The RISS Robot Club. Here we are creating robots from the Lego robot kits, but who knows what our mad professor will create next??? It is early days - so drop back later to see how far we have got ... to be continued ... :-)
Hortus pocus

Grade 11 Geography and ESS students went to Hortus Botanicus in Leiden, they were introduced to global biomes and indigenous plant species. In complement to their guided tour, students had the opportunity to invest their freshly acquired knowledge into a treasure hunt. The winners were Tess, Tahnee and Kelly. Well done girls!
Grade 10 Bowling

Grade 10 had a great afternoon bowling - a reward for all of their hard work last year!
Mouse dissection by Grade 10 students

Grade 10 students had the opportunity to see the organ systems they study "in situ" during mice dissection. The mice were purchased in a reptile shop, deep frosen; mentions were made of ethics in introduction of this lab (MPA).
